The Leamington Flyers survived a determined comeback attempt by the Chatham Maroons on the way to a 4-2 win.
Leamington made the score 4-1 on a goal by Matthew Opblinger at 12:21 in the second period, and Chatham got as close as 4-2 when Ian Faubert scored 7:43 into the third period.
The win by the Flyers clinched the best of seven series at 4-2.
Opblinger had two goals to lead Leamington to victory.
The Flyers kept the Maroons' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brendan Johnston made 29 saves on 33 shots.
Leamington additionally got points from Mark Gangnon, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Leamington also got a goal from Jacob McGhee as well. Other players who recorded assists for Leamington were Mitchell Amante, who had two and J.P. Grineau, Scott Emerson, and Luke Sanko, who contributed one each.
Leamington was unable to stop Chatham from sending pucks towards the net, and the Maroons eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.
Mark Fratarcangelli also scored for Chatham. More assists for Chatham came via Ross Krieger, who had one and Gus Ford, who had two.
Tyler Wall rejected 33 shots on goal for the Flyers. Leamington incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Chatham totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 2-for-8 on the power play. For the Maroons, Austin Thompson was ejected from the game.
