The Leamington Flyers scored three goals in the second period to pull away from the Chatham Maroons and clinch a 7-1 win.
After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, Chatham faces elimination next time out.
Leamington was sparked by Derek Elliott, who registered one goal and one assist. Elliott scored 14:56 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Leamington. David Storey assisted on the tally.
Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:47 into the third period. Five fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.
The Flyers forced Maroons' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, finishing with 42 shots and forcing 35 saves. Brendan Johnston made 23 stops and Parker Butler made 12. Leamington's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Chatham power plays.
Leamington also got points from Colin Moore, who also had one goal and one assist and Mitchell Amante, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Leamington included Scott Emerson, Matthew Opblinger, Mark Gangnon, and Scott Florence, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Leamington were Jacob McGhee, Cale Phibbs, Luke Sanko, and Thomas Virban, who each chipped in one and Mitchell Crevatin, Mark Manchurek, and Zach Guilbeault, who contributed two each.
The Maroons were led by Connor Koviak, who scored the team's only goal. Koviak scored 3:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chatham. Michael Douglas picked up the assist.
Tyler Wall recorded 19 saves for the Flyers. Leamington totaled 33 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major and went 2-for-10 on the power play. For the Flyers, Storey was ejected from the game. Chatham ended with 44 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors and two majors. For the Maroons, Josh Barraclough and Declan Conway were ejected from the contest.
