Caledonia pulls away in second, rolls over Niagara Falls, 7-3

The Niagara Falls Canucks allowed the Caledonia Corvairs to net three goals during the second period and fell, 7-3.

The win gave Caledonia a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Quentin Maksimovich and Blake Luscombe provided the spark for the Corvairs, combining for three goals and two assists. Maksimovich grabbed two goals and one assist and Luscombe also notched one goal and one assist.

Niagara Falls' power play was ineffective against Caledonia's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Corvairs forced Canucks' goaltenders to work between the pipes, firing 42 shots and forcing 35 saves. Adam Dentico made 20 stops and Tynan Lauziere made 15.

Caledonia also got points from Luscombe, who also had one goal and one assist, Tyler Hill, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Tait Seguin, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Caledonia also had goals scored by Daniel Volpe and Corey Pawley, who each put in one. More assists for Caledonia came via Jacob Bianchi, Ryan Punkari, Mitchell Fitzmorris, and Nick Zottl, who contributed one each and Davis Brown and Matt McCartney, who each chipped in two.

The Canucks forced Caledonia goalie Mark Sinclair to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Niagara Falls was led by Matthew Marsden, who registered two goals. Marsden scored the first of his two goals at 10:10 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Caledonia. Marsden's next tally made the score 2-2 with 9:24 left in the first period. The Canucks had gained a power play chance when Seguin was whistled for interference. Frank Pucci picked up the assist. Niagara Falls also got a goal from Luke Laurin as well. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Carson Edwardson and Matthew Baldinelli, who contributed one each.

The Corvairs' Sinclair stopped 33 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Caledonia incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors. Niagara Falls incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
