Strathroy falls to Chatham in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Chatham Maroons pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Strathroy Rockets on a clutch goal by Ross Krieger.

Chatham came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Maroons fell behind 3-1 after a goal by Strathroy's Kieran Milne at 10:43 in the second period. Chatham knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Gus Ford at 13:35 in the third period.

Ford had two goals and one assist to lead the Maroons. Ford scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 18:51 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Strathroy. Chatham had gained a power play chance when Matt Laberge was whistled for delay of game. Ian Faubert assisted on the tally. Ford's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 6:25 left in the third period. Nolan VandenBoorn picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 11:08 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

The Maroons excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in nine chances. The Rockets were unable to stop Chatham from sending pucks towards the net, and the Maroons eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. Chatham could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 29 minutes in penalties during the game.

Chatham also got points from Steven Beenackers, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Chatham received assists from Dede Cato and Michael Levesque, who contributed one each.

Strathroy was often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The Rockets had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. Strathroy kept the Maroons' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brendan Johnston made 38 saves on 41 shots.

The Rockets were helped by Codey McRoberts, who racked up one goal. McRoberts scored 7:08 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Dante Copps assisted on the tally. Strathroy also got a goal from Nick Griffin as well. Other players who recorded assists for Strathroy were Liam Fordy, Jeff Williams, and Lucas Latina, who each chipped in one.

Chatham registered one goal on nine power play opportunities. The Maroons ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Blair Derynck was ejected from the game. Dane Gubbels made 37 saves for Strathroy on 41 shots. For the Rockets, Noah Tooke was ejected from the game.
