Gurr lifts Port Hope over Gananoque, 7-3

The Port Hope Panthers relied on the scoring touch of Andrew Gurr, who netted two goals, to beat the Gananoque Islanders, 7-3.

Gurr found the back of the net 10:59 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Port Hope and again while 2:40 into the third to make the score 4-2 Port Hope.

 

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Gananoque faces elimination next time out.

Port Hope kept the Islanders' goalie busy throughout the game, and Quinn Cota made 26 saves on 33 shots.

Port Hope additionally got points from Cameron McGill, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Dan Lagrois, who also had two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, and Shawn Mackie, who also registered one goal and one assist. Evan Wasylyk also scored for Port Hope. Other players who recorded assists for Port Hope were Blane Gaudon, who had two and Jon Campbell, Austin Jeffers, Evan Foley, Mike Smith, and Matthew Cavanaugh, who each chipped in one.

Gananoque was helped by Brenden Lochead, who racked up one goal. Lochead scored 16:07 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Port Hope. Patrick Lyster assisted on the tally. Gananoque also had goals scored by Hunter Drew and Brody Cross, who each put in one. In addition, Gananoque received assists from Nate Domen, who had one.

The Panthers' Aaron Young stopped 19 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Port Hope incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Islanders incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
