The Chatham Maroons had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-1 win over the LaSalle Vipers.
Chatham was led by goalie Parker Butler, who finished with 31 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Butler will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.25.
The Maroons were led by Teddy McGeen, who tallied one goal. McGeen scored 10:20 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Chatham. Michael Levesque assisted on the tally.
Chatham forced LaSalle's goalies to work without much rest, firing 44 shots and forcing 37 saves. Paolo Battisti made 32 stops and Eli Billing made five. The Maroons' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three LaSalle power plays. Chatham's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Maroons average 4.8 goals per contest.
Chatham also got points from Devin Panzeca, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, Michael Douglas, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Gus Ford, who also registered one goal and one assist. Nolan VandenBoorn also scored for Chatham. More assists for Chatham came via Ross Krieger, Ian Faubert, and Blair Derynck, who each chipped in two.
The Vipers forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 45 minutes in penalty time. LaSalle had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Vipers' offense operated below their season average. LaSalle puts an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game. Chatham was unable to stop the Vipers from sending pucks towards the net, and LaSalle eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.
The Vipers were led by Tyler Russell, who scored the team's only goal. Russell scored 8:22 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Manny Silverio picked up the assist.
The Maroons incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Team's Nathan Savage, Daniel Beaudoin, and Connor Rosaasen were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
