Strathroy falls to Chatham in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Devin Panzeca gave the Chatham Maroons a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Strathroy Rockets when he scored 4:10 into the extra period.

Panzeca was all over the ice for Chatham, as he tallied two goals in the win.

The Maroons kept Strathroy's goalie busy throughout the game, and Dane Gubbels made 67 saves on 72 shots.

Chatham additionally got points from Michael Douglas, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Chatham also had goals scored by Connor Koviak and Nolan VandenBoorn, who scored one goal each. In addition, Chatham received assists from Ross Krieger, who had two and Gus Ford, Ian Faubert, Teddy McGeen, and Blair Derynck, who contributed one each.

The Rockets forced Chatham goalie Brendan Johnston to work between the pipes, taking 56 shots. Strathroy found itself short handed often, totaling 24 penalty minutes and allowing four power plays.

The Rockets were led by Dillon Saunders, who racked up two goals. Saunders scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:51 into the second period to make the score 2-2. A slashing penalty on Faubert had put Strathroy on the power play. Dante Copps picked up the assist. Saunders' next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 10:04 left in the second period. The Rockets had gained a power play chance when Derynck was whistled for slashing. Shane Bulitka assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Strathroy included Nick Griffin and Max Ewart, who each put in one. More assists for Strathroy came via Matt Laberge and TJ Harris, who each chipped in one.

The Maroons' Johnston stopped 52 shots out of the 56 that he faced. Chatham incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Strathroy registered three goals on seven power play opportunities.
