Elliott leads Leamington over Chatham, 5-2

Behind a great game by Derek Elliott, who had one goal and two assists, the Leamington Flyers defeated the Chatham Maroons, 5-2.

Elliott beat Parker Butler with a shot 11:00 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Leamington. Aaron Langlois assisted on the tally. Elliott dished an assist on Liam Hogan's goal that made the score 1-0 Leamington at 40 seconds into the first period. He added another helper on Luke Sanko's goal that made the score 4-2 Leamington at 8:50 into the third period.

Leamington pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 55 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 2:51 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Chatham was unable to stop the Flyers from sending pucks towards the net, and Leamington eventually piled up 43 shots on goal.

Leamington additionally got points from Sanko, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. Leamington also got a goal from Mitchell Crevatin as well. In addition, Leamington received assists from Joe Urbanic, who had two and Nicolas Mainella and Zach Guilbeault, who each chipped in one.

The Maroons forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 49 minutes in penalty time. Chatham had been averaging 26.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Maroons could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Chatham averages 4.5 goals per game.

The Maroons were helped by Declan Conway, who registered one goal. Conway scored 13:19 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Leamington. Connor Koviak also scored for Chatham. More assists for Chatham came via Austin Thompson and Ian Faubert, who contributed one each.

The Flyers' Tyler Wall stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Leamington registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For the Flyers, Jacob McGhee and Guilbeault were ejected from the contest. Butler rejected 38 shots on goal for Chatham. The Maroons registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Team's Josh Barraclough and Michael Levesque were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
