A five-goal first period deficit cost the Napanee Raiders, which could not recover and fell to the Port Hope Panthers, 7-2.
Port Hope was led by Matthew Cavanaugh, who grabbed one goal. Cavanaugh scored 8:46 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Port Hope. Andrew Gurr picked up the assist.
The Panthers forced Raiders' goaltenders to work without much rest, taking 41 shots and forcing 34 saves. Paul Giusti made zero stops and Cameron Parr made 34.
Port Hope also got points from Jack Vautour, who also had one goal and one assist and Dalton Lawrence, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Port Hope included Shawn Mackie, who had two and Josh Geruais and Evan Foley, who scored one goal each. In addition, Port Hope received assists from Cameron Lowery, Cameron McGill, and Mike Smith, who contributed one each.
Napanee racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and two majors for 44 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game the Raiders had been spending in the box. Napanee was held below its usual level of production. The Raiders put an average of 4.2 pucks into the net per game.
Napanee was led by Justynn Steven, who finished with one goal. Steven scored on the power play 7:22 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Port Hope. The Raiders had taken the advantage when Port Hope's Lawrence got sent off for cross checking. Aidan McFarland assisted on the tally. Trent Schutt also scored for Napanee. Other players who recorded assists for Napanee were Michael Parr, who had one.
Sheldon Calbury recorded 17 saves for the Panthers. Port Hope totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. The Panthers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ben Grieve was ejected from the game. Napanee registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Team's Ryley Richardson and Nicolas Schuler were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
