The Chatham Maroons survived a determined comeback attempt by the Sarnia Legionnaires on the way to a 5-3 win.
Chatham made the score 5-2 on a goal by Declan Conway at 7:49 in the third period, and Sarnia got as close as 5-3 when Brock Perry scored 11:51 into the third period.
Devin Panzeca had a great game for the Maroons, netting two goals. Panzeca scored short handed at 5:03 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chatham and again while short handed 3:47 into the third to make the score 4-2 Chatham.
Chatham also got points from Steven Beenackers, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Chatham came via Mark Fratarcangelli, who had three and Connor McKinnon, Ian Faubert, and Michael Levesque, who contributed one each.
The Legionnaires' offense rang up 43 shots on Chatham's net.
Sarnia was helped by PJ Vandervaart, who grabbed one goal. Vandervaart scored on the power play 5:22 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A hooking penalty on Cory Bussing had put the Legionnaires on the power play. Brendan Shagena assisted on the tally. Sarnia also got a goal from Jordan Fogarty as well. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Sam McCormack, Ryan Vendramin, Ryan Trottier, Brandon Layman, and Alec DeKoning, who each chipped in one.
Parker Butler made 40 saves for the Maroons on 43 shots. Chatham incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Aidan Hughes rejected 22 shots on goal for Sarnia. The Legionnaires incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
