Chatham uses big second period to beat Lambton Shores, 9-4

The Lambton Shores Predators was within striking distance after one period, but the Chatham Maroons put the pedal down in the second en route to a 9-4 victory.

Ross Krieger had two goals and three assists to lead Chatham. Krieger scored the first of his two goals at 9:10 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Lambton Shores. Teddy McGeen picked up the assist. Krieger's next tally made the score 3-2 Chatham with 29 seconds left in the first period. Michael Levesque provided the assist.

The Maroons forced Lambton Shores' goaltenders to work without much rest, finishing with 50 shots and forcing 41 saves. Anthony Hurtubise made 22 stops and Keegan Paulette made 19. Chatham stifled the Predators' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Maroons outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Chatham averages 4.7 goals per contest.

Chatham additionally got points from Declan Conway, who also registered one goal and one assist and McGeen, who also finished with three goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Chatham also had goals scored by Connor McKinnon, Mark Fratarcangelli, and Blair Derynck, who each put in one. In addition, Chatham received assists from Connor Koviak, who had four and Devin Panzeca and Steven Beenackers, who contributed one each.

Lambton Shores was helped by Gino Mini, who grabbed one goal. Mini scored 4:48 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Lambton Shores. Ethan Sarfati picked up the assist. Lambton Shores also got points from Marcel Berube, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Lambton Shores also got a goal from Andrew Kim as well. Other players who recorded assists for Lambton Shores were Franco Sproviero, Ben Woo, Colin Burns, and Eric Campbell, who each chipped in one.

The Maroons' Brendan Johnston stopped 23 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Chatham incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Predators incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
