Blades Announce 2016-2017 Roster
Date: Oct 3, 2016
The Boston Blades will grace their home ice for the final time this season this weekend, facing off against Les Canadiennes for a pair of games. Saturday’s game will take place at New England Sports Center at 7 PM while Sunday’s game takes place at Tsongas Arena in Lowell at 1:30 PM. Sunday’s game will also be streamed live on CWHL Live.
Boston had last weekend off after traveling to Montreal to start the new year. Although the Blades dropped both games to Les Canadiennes two weekends ago, the team was thrilled to represent Boston for the You Can Play game on January 2nd as well as play in front of over 4,000 rabid hockey fans over the two games. Genevieve Lacasse shined as usual for the Blades, making 101 saves over the course of the two games. Montreal defeated Boston by scores of 4-0 and 7-0, with former Boston University standout Marie-Philip Poulin tallying 2 goals and an assist on the weekend. A big bright spot for the Blades was the return of Tara Watchorn, who played in both games after suffering an injury at the end of 2015.
Les Canadiennes are riding a 5 game win streak, having defeated the Toronto Furies 5-1 and 3-1 during the Blades’ bye weekend. Montreal is led by Poulin, who leads the CWHL in points with 24, as well as the play of goaltender Charline Labonte, who leads the CWHL in goals against average (1.27) and save percentage (.931). Les Canadiennes forward Ann-Sophie Bettez is 3rd in the CWHL with 22 points, while forwards Kim Deschenes (18 points) and Caroline Ouellette (16 points) are also in the top 11.
