Phibbs leads Dunnville over Port Dover, 6-3

Josh Phibbs had two goals and one assist to lead the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats to a 6-3 victory over the Port Dover Sailors.

Phibbs found the back of the net 3:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Dunnville and again while 5:22 into the third to make the score 5-2 Dunnville.

Dunnville pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 30 penalty minutes.

The Jr. Mudcats put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Port Dover to score on any of its seven power plays. Dunnville forced the Sailors goalie Mathew Venturelli to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. The Jr. Mudcats bested their season scoring average. Dunnville averages 3.9 goals per game.

Dunnville also got points from Mark Topp, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Damien Lalonde, who also had one goal and one assist. Dunnville also had goals scored by Jake MacDougall and Connor Schmalz, who scored one goal each. In addition, Dunnville received assists from #$self.jersey, who had two, Travis Sheldrake, who had three, and Steven Czepek and Devin Lampert, who each chipped in one.

Port Dover excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Jr. Mudcats were unable to stop the Sailors from sending pucks towards the net, and Port Dover eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. The Sailors could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

Port Dover was helped by Eric O`Keefe, who racked up one goal. O`Keefe scored 5:37 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Josh Turberfield picked up the assist. Port Dover additionally got points from Riley Vanhorne, who also registered one goal and one assist and Braden Roberts, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Port Dover came via Alex Takacs, Eric Mueller, and Brad Johnson, who contributed one each.

Jesse Schoeman rejected 37 shots on goal for Dunnville. The Sailors' Venturelli stopped 33 shots out of the 39 that he faced.
