The Ancaster Avalanche tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Niagara Falls Canucks would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.
Niagara Falls made the score 3-0 on a goal by Frank Pucci at 18:47 in the first period, and Ancaster got as close as 3-2 when Zach Lawrence scored 5:43 into the third period.
Austin Bottrell was all over the ice for the Canucks, as he had two goals in the win. Bottrell scored at 7:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Niagara Falls and again while on the power play 9:17 into the third to make the score 4-2 Niagara Falls.
Niagara Falls stifled the Avalanche's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Canucks forced Ancaster goalie Cole Ceci to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.
Niagara Falls additionally got points from Pucci, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Sean Farquharson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Niagara Falls were Zack Lansfield, who had two and Thomas Flack, Matthew Baldinelli, Luke Laurin, and Cristian DiFonzo, who each chipped in one.
The Avalanche's offense rang up 40 shots on Niagara Falls' net.
Ancaster also got points from Ben Hughes, who also registered one goal and one assist and Lucas Pozzobon, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Ancaster received assists from Jesse Hilton, Dustin Burr, Max Balinson, and Tyler Bell, who contributed one each.
Adam Dentico recorded 37 saves for the Canucks. Niagara Falls incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Cole Ceci made 27 saves for Ancaster on 31 shots. The Avalanche incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
