The Wellesley Applejacks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Burford Bulldogs on the way to a 5-4 win.
A goal by Braidon Kerbs put Wellesley up 5-2 in the second period, but Burford pulled to within one on Mitch Randell's tally 15:35 into the third period.
The Applejacks were led by Nick Palmer, who registered one goal. Palmer scored 7:38 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wellesley. Shaun Pickering provided the assist.
Wellesley forced Bulldogs' goalies to work between the pipes, getting 35 shots and forcing 30 saves. Jack Stockdale made 23 stops and Michael Black made seven.
Wellesley also had goals scored by Cal Jefferies, Tyson Bender, and Nathan Schlupp, who scored one goal each. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Joe Heath, who had two and Jackson Keller, Greg Huber, Matthew Lantz, Sean McEwan, and Nick Breault, who contributed one each.
The Bulldogs kept the Applejacks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ryan Porter made 29 saves on 33 shots.
Others who scored for Burford included Owen Hinch and Kurtis Christo, who each put in one. More assists for Burford came via Jesse Szabo, David Denardi, Jensen DaSilva, Nolan Ferris, Tyler Hinde, and Jesse Brooks, who each chipped in one.
Wellesley incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Burford incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
