The Georgina Ice had trouble finding ways to stop the North Kawartha Knights, which beat Ice, 6-2.
Cameron Medland had two goals to lead North Kawartha to victory. Medland scored at 4:48 into the second period to make the score 3-1 North Kawartha and again while 1:34 into the third to make the score 6-2 North Kawartha.
The Knights' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. North Kawartha had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Knights surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, North Kawartha averages 3.4 goals per contest.
North Kawartha also got points from Justin Thain, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Christian Lachapelle also scored for North Kawartha. In addition, North Kawartha received assists from Spencer Green, Daniel Taylor, Shawnessy Borden, and Ethan Coens, who each chipped in one and Shane Patterson, Connor Gourlie, and Regan Kennedy, who contributed two each.
Georgina kept the Knights' goalie busy throughout the game, and Green made 38 saves on 40 shots.
The Ice were helped by Geoff Walker, who finished with one goal. Walker scored on the power play 17:01 into the first period to make the score 2-1 North Kawartha. Georgina had gained a power play chance when Matt Douglas was whistled for slashing. Brendan Mackenzie picked up the assist. Georgina also got a goal from Dustin Brillinger as well. Other players who recorded assists for Georgina were Dan Foster and Tanner Tomlinson, who each chipped in one.
North Kawartha registered two goals on five power play opportunities. The Knights ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Douglas was ejected from the game. Grant Campbell took the loss and made 15 saves before being replaced by Emilio Gallenero who made seven saves. The Ice totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. For Georgina, Tomlinson was ejected from the game.
