Cathedral Prep holds on for 5-4 win against Seneca Valley

Seneca Valley tried to dig itself out of a three-goal hole, but Cathedral Prep held on for a 5-4 victory.

A goal by Joe Kelly put Cathedral Prep up 5-2 in the third period, but Seneca Valley pulled to within one on Alexander Crilley's tally 16:29 into the third period.

Cathedral Prep was paced by Jacob Emerson, who finished with one goal. Emerson scored 13:06 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Cathedral Prep. Dillon Elliott picked up the assist.

Cathedral Prep's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Seneca Valley power plays.

Cathedral Prep also had goals scored by James Sturm, Jack Becker, and Donovan Cullen, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Cathedral Prep were Jack Zaphiris, Joe Sala, and Pat Kelly, who each chipped in one and Nick Trageser and Jacob Schlosser, who contributed two each.

Seneca Valley managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Seneca Valley finished below its season average of 11.0 penalty minutes per game. Seneca Valley forced Cathedral Prep goalie Trent Faulkner to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Seneca Valley also got points from Christopher Lipnicky, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Seneca Valley included Tyler Murphy and Connor Williams, who scored one goal each. Faulkner rejected 29 shots on goal for Cathedral Prep. Cathedral Prep incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Alyssa Peterson made 17 saves for Seneca Valley on 22 shots.
