Early goals doom Alvinston, falls to Essex, 10-3

The Essex 73s opened up a four-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 10-3 win over the Alvinston Flyers.

Tyler Turner had a great game for Essex, netting two goals. Turner's tallies came at 1:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Essex and 5:49 into the first to make the score 2-0 Essex.

The 73s' penalty kill excelled, as Essex gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The 73s forced Alvinston's goaltenders to work between the pipes, racking up 42 shots and forcing 32 saves. Cam MacAlpine made 25 stops and Matt Boere made seven. Essex stifled the Flyers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 73s outdid their season average for goals scored. Essex has scored at the pace of 5.3 goals per game during the current campaign. The defensemen of the 73s were also effective in Alvinston's zone, and came away with two goals.

Essex also got points from Matt Zelko, who also finished with two goals and one assist, Tyler Scott, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Phil Janikowski, who also registered one goal and two assists. Essex also had goals scored by Michael Vieira, who had two and Matthew Hebert and Luke Gecse, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Essex were Adam Gaiarin, who had two, Kade McKibbin and William Stadder, who each chipped in one, and Alixe Saliba and Dallas Pereira, who contributed three each.

Trevor Wheaton made 19 saves for Essex on 22 shots. The 73s incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Flyers ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For Alvinston, Cole Harris was ejected from the game.
