Mars relied on the scoring touch of Noah Raymundo, who netted four goals, to beat Armstrong, 8-3.
Raymundo notched his first tally 8:52 into the first period. He then added goals at 15:15 into the first, at 4:13 into the second, and at 2:35 into the third.Mars' penalty kill excelled, as Mars gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.
Mars was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 14 penalty minutes. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with four goals.
Mars also got points from Owen Vasbinder, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Beau Heakins, who also had one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Mars included Keaton Hanna and Jonathan Kowalkowski, who each put in one. More assists for Mars came via William Scurci, who had one and Michael McCann, who had three.
Armstrong did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. Armstrong puts an average of 6.2 pucks into the net per game. Armstrong's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Armstrong could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.
Armstrong was helped by Zane Wichowski, who tallied two goals. Wichowski scored the first of his two goals at 6:27 into the second period to make the score 5-2 Mars. David Contrael picked up the assist. Wichowski's next tally made the score 5-3 Mars with 10:32 left in the second period. Armstrong earned a power play opportunity when Benjamin Heltman was put in the box for tripping. Zachary Kutch assisted on the tally. Armstrong additionally got points from Luke Gross, who also registered one goal and one assist.
Tyler Spreng made 19 saves for Mars on 22 shots. Mars registered three goals on 14 power play opportunities. Armstrong's starting goalie, Taylor Smouse, made eight saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Jacob Lorigan, who stopped 13 shots.
