SASKATOON – Six Nations Rebels are now the 4-time Founders Cup champions and 2012 Founders Cup hosts following a 14-11 win over the Calgary Mountaineers in the Founders Cup Final Sunday afternoon at the Kinsmen Arena in Saskatoon. It is the Rebels 3rd Founders Cup title in 5 years.

 

The Rebels started Don Alton in goal while the Mountaineers countered with Tim Houghton.

 

Rebels Chris Attwood (4:46) and Mountaineers Austin Biggar (7:34) traded opening goals. Rebels Vaughn Harris (8:08), Attwood (power play goal & 2nd of the game @ 12:25) and Jacob Bomberry (Shorthanded @ 14:45) made it 4-1 Rebels lead. Mountaineers Dillon Stecyk (power play goal @ 14:59) got one back. However Rebels Harris (2nd of the game @ 15:42) and Tyler Leblanc (18:27) made it 6-2. Calgary got two back in final 79 seconds as Biggar (2nd of the game @ 18:41) and Trent Roll (19:45) cut the lead to 6-4 after 20 minutes of play. Rebels outshot the Mountaineers 19-15 in the first period.

 

Rebels Ian Martin (1:39) and Attwood (hat-trick & Shorthanded goal @ 5:31) made it 8-4 Rebels. Mountaineers Mitch Grant (power play goal @ 6:09) got one back. However Rebels Martin (2nd of the game @ 7:08) caused Calgary coaching staff to make a goalie change as starter Houghton was replaced by Tanner Serwatkewich. Rebels Harris (hat-trick @ 14:11) build a 10-5 lead. Mountaineers Colin Stogryn (16:35) got one back before the end of the 2nd period. Rebels were outshot by the Mountaineers 14-12 in the middle frame.

 

In the 3rd period, Mountaineers Roll (2nd of the game @ 2:01) and Stecyk (2nd of the game @ 3:42) made it 10-8. Rebels Harris (4th of the game @ 5:37) stopped the Calgary run. Mountaineers captain, Cody Friesen (7:39) made it an 11-9 score. Rebels Harris (5th of the game & Game-Winning-Goal @ 12:00) and Martin (hat-trick @ 12:23) pushed the Rebels lead to 13-9. Mountaineers Steven Schorn (12:46) and Friesen (2nd of the game @ 13:28) made it 13-11. Rebels Ian Martin (4th of the game @ 15:32) finished off the scoring for the contest. Rebels outshot Calgary 18-15 in the 3rd period and 49-44 for the entire contest.

 

The Rebels were led byChris Attwood (3G, 6A) with a nine-point game. Vaughn Harris (5G, 1A) added six-points. Brandon Montour (5A) had 5-points. Ian Martin (4G) and Jesse Johnson (4A)contributed four-points each. Jacob Bomberry (1G, 2A) and Joe Haodias Maracle (3A) had three-points. J. Quinn Powless (2A) finished with a 2-point game.Single Rebels points were byTyler Leblanc (1G), Carney Johnson (1A), Rhys Tansley (1A), Lucas Smith (1A) and goalie Don Alton (1A).

 

The Mountaineers were led by Erik Hansen(5A) with a 5-helpers. Captain Cody Friesen(2G, 2A) and Thomas Bruton (4A) contributed four-points each. Austin Biggar (2G, 1A) contributed a 3-point night. Dillon Stecyk (2G) and Trenton Roll (2G) finished with 2-points apiece. Single Mountaineers points were by Mitch Grant(1G), Colin Stogryn (1G), Steven Schorn (1G), Luke Trimble (1A) and Sam Bacon (1A).
