Alvinston blows out Wallaceburg, 6-2

The Alvinston Flyers had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-2 win over the Wallaceburg Lakers.

Karsten Berg was all over the ice for Alvinston, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Berg scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 52 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alvinston. The Flyers had taken the advantage when Wallaceburg's George Hill got sent off for delay of game. Clint Rose provided the assist. Berg's next tally on the power play made the score 2-0 Alvinston with 15:41 left in the first period.

Alvinston forced the Lakers' goalies to work in net, racking up 48 shots and forcing 42 saves. Hill made 23 stops and Alex Carriere made 19. The Flyers bested their season scoring average. Alvinston averages 3.4 goals per game.

Alvinston additionally got points from Joe Stock, who also registered one goal and one assist. Kole Keating also scored for Alvinston. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Patrick Wright, Mark McNally, Brady Swan, Zach VanEyk, and Devon Brown, who contributed one each.

Wallaceburg's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Lakers finished with 34 penalty minutes.

Wallaceburg was led by George Wood, who tallied one goal and one assist. Wood scored on the power play 15:57 into the second period to make the score 5-2 Alvinston. A roughing penalty on Jeremy VanDeven had put the Lakers on the power play. Justin Melo picked up the assist. Wallaceburg also got a goal from Justin Lindsay as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wallaceburg were Ryan Greenaway and Brett Barnes, who each chipped in one.

Cam MacAlpine made 21 saves for the Flyers on 23 shots. Alvinston incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Wallaceburg registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Lakers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alex Ritchie was ejected from the game.
