In a game where neither team could get a cushion, Moon escaped with a 3-2 victory over Mars.
Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Shane Handlovitch's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.
Moon pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 26 penalty minutes.
Moon was led by Jared Maxin, who registered one goal. Maxin scored 8:35 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Moon. Logan Rosser assisted on the tally.
Moon also got a goal from Thomas Polster as well. In addition, Moon received assists from Austin Welsh, who had one and Nicholas Hart and Luke James, who contributed two each.
Mars put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Moon to score on any of its three power plays. Mars' offense operated below its season average. Mars puts an average of 6.3 pucks into the net per game.
Mars was helped by Jonathan Kowalkowski, who tallied one goal. Kowalkowski scored 5:32 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mars. Tyler Grau picked up the assist. Beau Heakins also scored for Mars. More assists for Mars came via Ian Newman and William Scurci, who each chipped in one.
Ryan Durkin made 28 saves for Moon on 30 shots. Tyler Spreng recorded 22 saves for Mars. Mars incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
