The Clarington Eagles had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the North Kawartha Knights.
Clarington pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 19 penalty minutes.
The Eagles were paced by Brent Hambly, who racked up one goal and one assist. Hambly scored on the power play 9:53 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Clarington. Clarington had gained a power play chance when Nick Mann was whistled for slashing. Dylan Howorko assisted on the tally.
The Eagles' offense rang up 38 shots on North Kawartha's net. Clarington was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of nine man advantages.
Clarington also got points from Howorko, who also had one goal and one assist and Cody Kean, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Clarington also got a goal from Liam Rowe as well. In addition, Clarington received assists from Brodie Myers, who had two and Mitchell Marchbank, Mackenzie Morissette, Justin Holiad, Kevin Smith, and William Lamoureux, who contributed one each.
The Knights' offense operated below their season average. North Kawartha puts an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game. The Knights' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as North Kawartha finished with 28 penalty minutes.
Mark Robb recorded 18 saves for the Eagles. For Clarington, Holiad was ejected from the game. Jake Ireland made 33 saves for the Knights on 38 shots. North Kawartha registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
