Blades Announce Draft Class of 2015
Date: Aug 25, 2015

This Saturday, the Boston Blades beat rival Montreal Stars 4-2 at a sold out Choate Rosemary Hall. With Choate alumna Hilary Knight and Nicole Stock of the Boston Blades and Julie Chu of the Montreal Stars, it was an exciting atmosphere.
As soon as the puck dropped, it was evident that the game would be close and incredibly entertaining. Just a few minutes into the game, Blake Bolden headed to the penalty box, giving Montreal a 5 on 4 advantage. The Blades power play was too strong, however, and Montreal was unable to score. However, while back at an even 5 on 5, Montreal struck first with Bettez goal. This would put Montreal on top 1-0. Soon after, the Blades would obtain a power play opportunity themselves, but too be unable to score.
After not scoring in the first period, the Blades were quick to change the zero into a one. Choate alum and Boston Blades captain Hilary Knight scored the Blades first goal of the game, tying the score 1-1. A few minutes later, Corinne Buie found herself in the penalty box, giving the Stars an advantage. The Blades penalty kill was strong throughout the entirety of the game. Brianna Decker was particularly strong, getting a short-handed shot on goal that would be saved with a diving effort Labonte. With 5:33 left in the period, Jordan Smelker ended up in the penalty box. Another strong penalty kill meant another shot on goal by Brianna Decker that, too, would be saved by Labonte. With just 45 seconds left in the period, Kim Deschenes of the Montreal Stars netted the Stars second goal of the game, putting them on top 2-1. Despite only scoring one goal, the Blades had a plethora of scoring opportunities that would all just miss getting in the net.
The third period saw back and forth action between the teams. The Blades saw a number of scoring opportunities in the early stages of the period. The Blades found themselves with a 5 on 4 power play advantage. Blades Brianna Decker was able to score the first power play goal of the game, assisted by Kacey Bellamy and Tara Watchorn. Upon Decker tying the score to 2-2, Corinne Buie, assisted by Jordan Smelker, scored the Blades third goal of the game, giving them their first lead of the game. With the Stars pulling Labonte, Hilary Knight was able to score an empty netter, securing the Blades 4-2 lead.
