Rookie Decker Leads Blades' Offensive Prowess Against Thunder

Date:  Source: CWHL: Boston Blades v2

The Boston Blades left Brampton, Ontario with two wins, 19 goals, and a promising young rookie named Brianna Decker.

A majority of the Blades offensive consummation is due to the rookie’s contributions. Decker accumulated 10 points in her first two CWHL games, leaving her tied for the third most points on the Blades. Seven of her ten points occurred in game one of the series. Those ten points can be evenly divided into five goals and five assists. With the addition of Decker, the Blades have improved their already highly talented team.

Despite Decker being the weekend series’ clear standout, she was not alone in her offensive successes. Captain Hilary Knight left Brampton with a total of 7 points, two goals and five assists. Blades rookie Denna Laing scored her first CWHL goal in game two of the series. She ended the weekend with a total of two points. Tara Watchorn saw success, scoring two goals and three assists for a total of five points. Fratkin, Pickett, Weber, and Bolden all ended the series with three points each. Ketchum, Laing, and Dempsey each had two points and Llanes, Cottrell, Duggan, and Buie each had one point.

The defensive play of the Blades was highly successful as well, only allowing seven SOG in game one and fifteen in game two. Brittany Ott displayed her skills in game two, getting the shutout.

This weekend’s play of the Blades was inspired and focused. With new faces and old working together, the Blades continue their season’s successes with both an 11-3 and an 8-0 victory against Brampton’s Thunder. The next Blades game will take place at Choate Rosemary Hall against the Montreal Stars on Saturday, January 24th, 2015 at 7:30PM EST.
