The Boston Blades took on the Providence College Friars in an exhibition game Saturday afternoon, winning 3-1. Four Boston Blades players and former Friars, including Ashley Cottrell, Genevieve Lacasse, Janine Weber, and Corinne Buie, were recognized prior to the game for returning to their alma mater. Despite old ties, the Blades and Friars showed a competitive spirit on the ice.

The Blades got the first advantage of the game, going on a 5 on 3 power play. They were, however, unable to score. With 5:12 left in the first period, the Blades scored the first goal of the game. Former Friar, Ashley Cottrell, assisted by Dru Burns, netted the goal to put the Blades on top 1-0. Just two minutes later, Casey Pickett with assists from Denna Laing and Bray Ketchum, scored the Blades second goal of the game, increasing their lead to 2-0. With just 10 seconds left in the period, the Blades scored their third goal of the game, increasing their lead to 3-0.

Just a few minutes into the period, the Blades see themselves with two power play opportunities and are unable to score on either. The Friars too gain two power play opportunities but cannot beat the Blades penalty kill. Following their second power play opportunity, the Friars score their first goal of the game, making the score 3-1.

The puck saw more time in the Blades defensive end in the third period but their defense didn’t allow the puck to get past them. Neither team would score in the third period, leaving the Blades with a 3-1 victory.

Join us tomorrow at 4:00PM as the Blades take on UNH on their ice.
