Blades Announce Draft Class of 2015
Date: Aug 25, 2015

The Blades took on the Toronto Furies the first weekend following the All Star Break and took the 3-2 loss in the first game of the two game series.
The first period got off to a slow start, with a lack of scoring opportunities within the first five minutes of play. With 7:12 left in the period, Furies Katie Wilson went to the box, putting the Blades on the power play. Just as the power play was ending, Blades Jessica Koizumi netted her first goal of the season. Blake Bolden assisted her. Just a few minutes later, the Blades were on another power play advantage with Kori Cheverie going to the box this time. They were, however, unable to put the puck in the net again, leaving the score 1-0 at the end of the period.
The second period saw much more back and forth action. With 11:33 left in the period, the Furies went on the power play. Just seconds into their power play advantage, Natalie Spooner poked a goal past Genevieve Lacasse tying the score 1-1. Spooner saw assists from both Kelly Terry and Megan Bozek. The Furies went on another power play but were unable to capitalize on it. With abot 3:06 left to go, Ashley Cottrell scored her first goal of the season and the Blades second of the game, putting the Blades on top 2-1. With 24 seconds left in the period, Tara French went to the penalty box, leaving the Blades with a power play and the lead to end the period.
The back and forth action continued in the third period. Despite the equated playing field, with 6:53 left in the period, Alyssa Baldin scored tying it 2-2. In a game where overtime seemed inevitable, Toronto’s Kelly Terry challenged this notion by scoring the Furies third goal of the game with under two minutes left. The Blades saw a few more scoring chances but were unable to put the puck past the swift Christina Kessler. Despite the loss, the Blades outscored the Furies 41-13 and showed control the majority of the game.
The two teams face off again tomorrow at 12:45PM at the MasterCard Centre.
