NEW WESTMINSTER, BC - Former Oakville Rock General Manager Terry Sanderson, who passed away suddenly in November of 2014, has been named to the 2015 class for the Canadian Lacrosse Hall Of Fame. He will be inducted Posthumously.
Sanderson is one of ten new members to receive one of the countries top honours in lacrosse as a builder. As a player he won a Mann Cup with the Brampton Excelsiors in 1980 and multiple President's Cups with the Dufferin (Orangeville) Northmen in the early 1980's.
Terry was instrumental in developing the Orangeville Northmen program into one of the most respected in Canada. As Head Coach, he guided the Northmen to Minto Cup Championships in 1993, 1995 and 1996. He then moved to the Major ranks in the early 2000's, winning a Mann Cup as coach of the Brampton Excelsiors in 2002. As GM/Assitant Coach, the Excelsiors won two more Mann Cups in 2008 and 2009.
In 2013, Sanderson took over as General Manager of the Oakville Rock, who had relocated from Ajax-Pickering, with visions of bringing a Mann Cup to Oakville. The team won 2 games that year, and improved to 6 wins in 2014. Sanderson suffered health problems while vacationing with family in November last year, and passed away. His son, Josh took over as GM for the 2015 MSL season, where the team is contending for a playoff spot.
"T (Terry) is certainly deserving of this honour," said Jamie Dawick, Toronto Rock Owner and friend. "He was so instrumental in developing winning programs everywhere he went. He left his legacy as a winner."
It's fitting that Terry will be inducted with his brother Lindsay, who was another influential figure in Orangeville Lacrosse, and was an Assistant Coach to Terry in the Northmen Minto Cup victories. For a full list of 2015 inductees: Click Here
