Veteran manager Scott Douglas has accepted an Eagles’ invitation to join the Eagles coaching staff in the Eagles Fall Instructional League this September.  Douglas has been a college player, a minor league player, a minor league manager and a college manager. His 20 plus years of coaching and playing experience includes NCAA Div. I, NAIA, JUCO, semi-pro and professional baseball.

Douglas spent his first two years as a college player at Waldorf Junior College in Forest City, Iowa before completing his collegiate career at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. After graduation, Douglas played independent professional baseball for two years with the 1994 Regina Cyclones and the 1995 Moose Jaw Diamond Dogs before transitioning to coaching. He was an assistant coach at Hardin-Simmons University before returning to manage the Diamond Dogs. Over parts of two season, he managed Moose Jaw to a 27-32 club record.  Coach Douglas then became an assistant coach with the University of Northern Iowa.  In 2000, he was appointed the head coach of the Trinidad State Junior College Trojans in 2000. He spent 12 successful seasons at the helm of the Trojans and his stint included a Region IX Championship (2008) and an Empire Conference Championship (2009). Between 2006 and 2012, Douglas' teams enjoyed seven straight winning seasons, reaching 30 wins each season and amassing a 246-171-1 record in that time. In 2012, Coach Douglas moved to Colorado Christian University for one year.

Douglas is currently the skipper of the Regina Red Sox of the Western Major Baseball League. In 2014, he guided the Red Sox to a WMBL East Division Pennant and a trip to the WMBL semifinals. Coach Douglas had previously coached with the Red Sox during the 2006 and 2007 seasons.

Coach Douglas is excited at the prospect of joining the Eagles Fall Instructional League, “During my college years I always heard about how many prospects came out of the BC Premier League. I had the privilege of coaching Canadian college players including players from the BCPBL. Being a Canadian who has played and coached in US colleges, I am confident that I can help the Eagles coaching staff prepare their players physically and mentally for the college baseball experience. I was impressed with the Victoria Eagles before I was asked to join the program. It is clear to me that the Eagles are committed to constant improvement and to providing the best possible environment for the players.”

“We are thrilled to have Coach Douglas join our coaching staff and players for a week of the Eagles 2015 Fall Instructional League,” commented Martin Winstanley, Chairman of Eagles Baseball. “His wide experience and success as a coach show an outstanding ability to develop baseball players. He is a tremendous addition to our fall program and our coaches and our young players will benefit from his deep knowledge of what it takes to succeed in college baseball. Douglas’ reputation as a coach with character and integrity makes him a perfect fit for the Victoria Eagles. My goal is to make September’s visit the start of a long relationship between Coach Douglas and Eagles Baseball.”

A Canadian citizen born in Moose Jaw, Alberta, Douglas holds a Master's of Education degree from Hardin Simmons University. He currently resides in Lakewood, Colorado with his school teacher wife and their two young sons.
