Orillia beats Stayner 3-2 after comeback scare

The Orillia Terriers survived a determined comeback attempt by the Stayner Siskins on the way to a 3-2 win.

A goal by Jason Binnie put Orillia up 3-1 in the second period, but Stayner pulled to within one on Dylan Bursey's tally 12:11 into the third period.

The win by the Terriers broke a deadlock and gave Orillia a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

The Terriers were paced by Binnie, who finished with one goal. Binnie scored on the power play 18:55 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Orillia. Orillia had gotten the advantage when the Siskins' Brandon Watson was sent off for boarding. Ryan Tucci provided the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:45 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Others who scored for Orillia included Mathew White and Sean Crowe, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Orillia were Konnor Blimke and Jamie Borrelli, who contributed one each.

Stayner forced the Terriers goalie Gordie Weiss to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

The Siskins were helped by Derick Robertson, who grabbed one goal. Robertson scored on the power play 5:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stayner. An elbowing penalty on Matt Clifford had put Stayner on the power play. Christian Papineau picked up the assist. In addition, Stayner received assists from Sean Healy, who had one.

Orillia's Weiss stopped 32 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Terriers totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-7 on the power play. Orillia ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tyler Mason was ejected from the game. Trevor Bloch made 22 saves for the Siskins on 25 shots. Stayner totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. For the Siskins, Ryan Hyndman was ejected from the game.
