The Goderich Flyers tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Hanover Barons held on for a 6-4 victory.
A goal by Kurt Ruhl put Hanover up 6-3 in the third period, but Goderich pulled to within two on Brandon Priestap's tally 19:18 into the third period.
After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, the Flyers face elimination next time out.
The Barons pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 32 penalty minutes.
Hanover's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on 11 Goderich power plays. The Barons' offense rang up 36 shots on Goderich's net. The defensemen of Hanover were also effective in the Flyers' zone, and came away with three goals.
The Barons were helped by Cole Leslie, who had one goal. Leslie scored 15:48 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Hanover. Greg Buchanan assisted on the tally. Hanover additionally got points from Justin D Graham, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Lucas Johnson, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Tyson Soers, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Hanover came via Garrett Weigel, Lukas Heathers, Tanner Bastien, and Jarrett Kuntz, who contributed one each.
Goderich was helped by Cody McIntyre, who finished with one goal. McIntyre scored 2:54 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Hanover. Jesse McIntyre picked up the assist. Goderich also got points from Logan Lammerant, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Priestap, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Nick Gowing also scored for Goderich. In addition, Goderich received assists from Jordan Pepper and Marcel Fohkens, who each chipped in one.
Gord Walmsley recorded 15 saves for Hanover. The Barons registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For Hanover, Bastien was ejected from the game. Nathan Watson made 30 saves for the Flyers on 36 shots. Goderich incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
