Walkerton beats Mitchell 4-3 after comeback scare

The Mitchell Hawks tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Walkerton Hawks held on for a 4-3 victory.

Walkerton took a 4-2 lead during the second period, only to have Mitchell storm back on a Bayley Boyes goal 7:55 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The win gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Hawks were unable to stop Walkerton from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

Walkerton was led by Calvin Penney, who registered three goals and one assist. Walkerton additionally got points from Jay Thomson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Walkerton came via Lauchlin Elder, who had two and Brendan Welsh and Austin Russell, who contributed one each.

Scott Fries also scored for Mitchell. Other players who recorded assists for Mitchell were Ethan Adair, McKenzie Carter, Joe McCarthy, Matt Van DeWalle, and Jake Finlayson, who each chipped in one.

Erik Angeli recorded 22 saves for the Hawks. Walkerton incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. For the Hawks, Matt Shields was ejected from the game. Graeme Lauersen made 35 saves for Mitchell on 39 shots. The Hawks incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
