The Goderich Flyers fell behind early, and the Walkerton Hawks kept piling on the points on the way to a 12-3 victory.
Walkerton got the win with help from a great game by Brandon Lamothe, who had two goals and one assist. Lamothe scored the first of his two goals at 6:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Walkerton. Alex Perrault provided the assist. Lamothe's next tally made the score 5-0 Walkerton with 11:12 left in the second period.
The Hawks forced Flyers' goaltenders to work in net, finishing with 42 shots and forcing 30 saves. Pat Do made 27 stops and Nathan Watson made three. Walkerton surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Hawks average 5.1 goals per contest. Walkerton was effective with a man advantage, and put in two goals while on the power play.
Walkerton also got points from Carter Franks, who also finished with one goal and three assists, Josh Deyell, who also had one goal and one assist, Chris Gillman, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Calvin Penney, who also registered two goals and three assists to lead the team in points, and Brett Coulson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Walkerton also had goals scored by Austin Russell and Matt Shields, who each put in two. More assists for Walkerton came via Tyler Cunningham, who had two and Mitch Borden and Ryan Hamelin, who contributed one each.
Goderich kept the Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Tristan Lewis made 33 saves on 36 shots.
The Flyers were led by Cody McIntyre, who had one goal and one assist. McIntyre scored 5:05 into the third period to make the score 7-1 Walkerton. Others who scored for Goderich included Brandon Priestap and Jordan Pepper, who scored one goal each. In addition, Goderich received assists from Darby Tyndall, Mitch Kuik, and Taylor Helesic, who each chipped in one.
Walkerton incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Goderich incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
