BREMERTON, WA - The West Sound Warriors faced off aganist two opponents this week and came out with four points to grab the sole lead in the NPHL standings.
Thursday the Eugene Generals visted the BIC for the first meeting since Eugene announced interim coach Justin Kern had now taken the official head coach position. On paper both teams were playing with a short bench as the Generals dressed 16 and the Warriors put 15 on the ice. It was West Sound that jumped ahead in the first period, scoring 5 unanswered goals by Gavin Nickerson (Frys, Kolbeins), Tommy Bowe (Nickerson, Knight), Dom Kolbeins (unassisted), Taylor Knight (Bowe, McClintick) and Paul Frys (Perrkins). It was a commanding performance by the Warriors as the posted a 22-3 shot advantage and went 2-3 on the power play.
West Sound added to their margin early with a power play goal from Nickerson (Frys, Kolbeins) less than a minute into the period. Four minutes later, Scotty Perkins (Turner) made it a seven goal game. Eugene woke up midway through the second and put the pressure on an overconfident Warriors team. Connor Hoernlein finally got the Generals on the board with about 4 minutes left to play in the period.
The score would stay that way until late in the third period. Eugene held on through a barrage of West Sound shots until finally Sam Heiser (Turner) was able to start the final period scoring. Ben Joseph (Walters, McCartney) and Taylor Knight (Frys) were able to finish the game scoring. Final score: 10-1 West Sound.

Bellingham came to town two days later for a Saturday night rivalry game. The Blazers were stricken with flu-like symptoms but were able to play the Warriors hard, even scoring on their first shot of the game to go up early. The Warriors responded on their first power play from Ben Joseph (Bowe, Knight). The score would only remain tied for a couple of minutes before West Sound would tally another power play goal from Gavin Nickerson (Pelone, Kolbeins). the first period would end with the Warriors up 2-1.
As typical with the matchup the teams play each other hard. The second period was scoreless but the Blazers were able to outshoot the Warriors 9-5. The final period was back and forth until midway though when the Warriors increased their lead with a goal from Matthew Walters (Kolbeins, Joseph). Thirty seconds later, West Sound struck again, this time Vance Siebert (Van Schaack, McCartney) was able to get on the board. Not even 2 minutes after that, Belllingham took an ill advised penalty and the power play struck again for the final score.
