Mount Forest holds on for 5-3 win against Goderich

The Goderich Flyers tried their best to erase a four-goal deficit, but the Mount Forest Patriots would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-3.

Mount Forest made the score 5-1 on a goal by Mitch Betts at 17:53 in the second period, and Goderich got as close as 5-3 when Brandon Priestap scored 9:35 into the third period.

Betts had a great game for the Patriots, netting two goals.

Mount Forest forced the Flyers' goaltenders to work in net, firing 39 shots and forcing 34 saves. Pat Do made 19 stops and Nathan Watson made 15.

Mount Forest also got a goal from Brady Becker as well. In addition, Mount Forest received assists from Devin Williams, Tyler McCracken, Todd Greer, and Ian Bridgwater, who contributed one each and Doug Ardis and Shawn Lantz, who each chipped in two.

Goderich kept the Patriots' goalie busy throughout the game, and John Nixon made 32 saves on 35 shots.

The Flyers were led by Marcel Fohkens, who registered one goal and two assists. Fohkens scored on the power play 13:31 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Mount Forest. Goderich had taken the advantage when Mount Forest's Keenan Maclean-Hill got sent off for roughing. Andrew Gooding picked up the assist. Taylor Helesic also scored for Goderich.

The Patriots incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Flyers incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
