The Kincardine Bulldogs survived a determined comeback attempt by the Goderich Flyers on the way to a 5-3 win.
Kincardine made the score 5-2 on a goal by Patrick Wiejak at 18:19 in the second period, and Goderich got as close as 5-3 when Joseph Dykstra scored 11:00 into the third period.
The Bulldogs were paced by Shawn Moore, who registered one goal. Moore scored 12:21 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Kincardine.
Kincardine forced the Flyers goalie Nathan Watson to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.
Kincardine additionally got points from Chad Simpson, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Wiejak, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Kincardine included Jordan Bell and Matt Baker, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Kincardine were Brycin Morrison, who had two and Jordan Van Haelemeesch and Mike Osadca, who each chipped in one.
Goderich found itself short handed often, totaling 24 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays.
The Flyers were helped by Curtis Taylor, who finished with one goal and one assist. Taylor scored on the power play 17:26 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Kincardine. A roughing penalty on Alex Labrosse had put Goderich on the power play. Dykstra assisted on the tally. Goderich also got points from Dykstra, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Mitch Kuik also scored for Goderich. In addition, Goderich received assists from Taylor Helesic and Nick Gowing, who contributed one each.
Luke Aulthouse recorded 17 saves for the Bulldogs. Kincardine incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Nathan Watson made 35 saves for the Flyers on 40 shots. Goderich registered two goals on four power play opportunities. The Flyers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Drew McKee was ejected from the game.
