The Mount Forest Patriots had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-1 win over the Goderich Flyers.

Mount Forest got the win behind a great game by Trevor Hughson, who had two goals and one assist. Hughson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:16 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Mount Forest. A tripping penalty on Adam Cousins had put the Patriots on the power play. Doug Costanzo assisted on the tally. Hughson's next tally on the power play made the score 5-0 Mount Forest with 4:37 left in the second period. Mount Forest earned a power play opportunity when Liam Melady was put in the box for roughing. Costanzo provided the assist.

The Patriots were led by goalie Cole Wardlaw, who finished with 31 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Wardlaw will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.89.

Mount Forest put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Goderich to score on any of its five power plays. The Patriots forced the Flyers goalie Nathan Watson to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. Mount Forest bested its season scoring average. This season, the Patriots average 4.5 goals per contest.

Mount Forest additionally got points from Costanzo, who also racked up one goal and three assists and Luke Richardson, who also tallied two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Mount Forest included Doug Ardis and Cody Wright, who each put in one. More assists for Mount Forest came via Tyler McCracken, who had two.

Goderich's offense rang up 32 shots on Mount Forest's net.

The Patriots incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Watson rejected 32 shots on goal for the Flyers. Goderich incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
