The Hanover Barons were firing on all cylinders against the Goderich Flyers, and when the final buzzer sounded Barons emerged with a 6-1 win.
Goderich's power play was ineffective against Hanover's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.
The Barons were sparked by Kurt Ruhl, who registered one goal. Ruhl scored 5:16 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Hanover. Brodie Lemay picked up the assist.
Hanover's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Goderich power plays. The Barons' offense rang up 35 shots on the Flyers' net. Hanover could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.
Hanover additionally got points from Tyson Soers, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Jarrett Kuntz, who also had one goal and one assist. Hanover also had goals scored by Denver Hill, Maxwell Barclay, and Wendel Cameron, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Hanover were Justin D Graham, Ben Watson, Lucas Johnson, and Garrett Reed, who contributed one each.
Goderich did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 12 shots on net to force 11 saves.
The Flyers were led by Mitch Kuik, who scored the team's only goal. Kuik scored 12:13 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Hanover. Cody McIntrye provided the assist.
Gord Walmsley recorded 11 saves for the Barons. Hanover registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Goderich's Nathan Watson stopped 29 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Flyers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
