Friday: Marquette Royales 4 @ Wooster Oilers 2
The Royales picked up their second win in a row on Friday, as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead through 25 minutes, thanks to first period goals from Alec Morris and Todd Cooper, and a second period tally from Ingus Matins. Wooster responded with a pair of their own from Rubin Cahavarria and Jake Greathouse, but Marquette’s Leonid Anikin sealed the deal early in the third, to send Marquette to the win. Anikin also dished out a pair of assists to give him three points on the night. Royales goaltender Luke Thurston stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced to pick up his second win of the season, while Wooster backstop Steven Schmitt turned aside 19-of-23 in the loss.
Saturday: Wooster Oilers 5 VS. Marquette Royales 1
The Oilers used four unanswered goals over the last 41 minutes to pull away from the defending MnJHL champs. The two sides traded goals early in the first, as Wooster’s Jake Greathouse and Marquette’s Cameron Wirick both lit the lamp. Wooster then took control of the driver seat, as Jeffery Skinner recorded a natural hat trick (three goals in a row), and Tyler Crites netted the exclamation point late in the third, to seal the win for Wooster, and snap the Royales’ two-game winning streak. Oiler netminder Creighton Furber was near perfect, stopping 21-of-22, on his way to his fourth win of the season. Luke Thurston stopped 44 of the 49 shots he faced for the Royales, in the loss.

Marquette added third period markers from Ingus Matins and KiJana Humphries, but it was not enough, as Wooster held on for the win.
