The Mount Forest Patriots tried to dig themselves out of a five-goal hole, but the Goderich Flyers held on for a 7-5 victory.

A goal by Mitch Kuik put Goderich up 7-2 in the third period, but Mount Forest pulled to within two on Trevor Hughson's tally 17:15 into the third period.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:20 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Flyers' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 11 minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Goderich had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Flyers forced the Patriots goalie Cole Wardlaw to work between the pipes, taking 52 shots. Goderich outdid its season average for goals scored. The Flyers average 2.3 goals per game. Goderich was held back by its power play unit, which tallied two goals on 14 chances.

The Flyers were led by Nick Gowing, who had three goals and one assist. Goderich also got points from Curtis Taylor, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Goderich also had goals scored by Andrew Gooding and Jesse McIntyre, who scored one goal each. More assists for Goderich came via Darby Tyhdall, Taylor Helesic, Brad MacIntyre, and Marcel Fohkens, who contributed one each and Eric McPhee and Joseph Dykstra, who each chipped in two.

Mount Forest was often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 45 minutes in penalty time. The Patriots surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Mount Forest kept Goderich's goalie busy throughout the game, and Pat Do made 46 saves on 51 shots.

Mount Forest additionally got points from Luke Richardson, who also registered two goals and one assist and Cody Wright, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Mount Forest also got a goal from Doug Costanzo as well.

Team's Morgan Benniwies and Cody Kropf were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Cole Wardlaw made 45 saves for the Patriots on 52 shots. Mount Forest registered three goals on 10 power play opportunities. The Patriots ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brandon Richardson was ejected from the game.
