The Hanover Barons jumped out to a five-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Goderich Flyers, 9-2.
Hanover got the win thanks to a great game by Tyson Soers, who had two goals and one assist. Soers scored the first of his two goals at 5:18 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Hanover. Garrett Reed provided the assist. Soers' next tally made the score 9-2 Hanover with 1:49 left in the third period. The Barons had gained a power play chance when Morgan Benniwies was whistled for interference. Wyatt Carey picked up the assist.
Goderich's power play was ineffective against Hanover's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.
The Barons forced Flyers' goalies to work without much rest, taking 46 shots and forcing 37 saves. Nathan Watson made 12 stops and Pat Do made 25. Hanover's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Goderich power plays. The Barons found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Hanover averages 4.0 goals per game. The defensemen of the Barons were also effective in the Flyers' zone, and came away with three goals.
Hanover also got points from Denver Hill, who also registered one goal and two assists and Reed, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Hanover included Kurt Ruhl, who had two and Lukas Heathers, Lucas Johnson, and Cole Leslie, who scored one goal each. In addition, Hanover received assists from Justin D Graham, who had three and Colton Culbert, Garrett Weigel, Devin Perdue(AP), and Jarrett Kuntz, who contributed one each.
Goderich also had goals scored by Trent Michie (AP) and Marcel Fohkens, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Goderich were Mitch Kuik, Eric McPhee, Jordan Pepper, and Jesse McIntyre, who each chipped in one.
Cody Van der Heide rejected 19 shots on goal for Hanover. The Barons incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Goderich incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Team's Adam Cousins and Drew McKee were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
