Tigers Out to a Hot Start

The first two weeks of the season are gone and the Tigers have started out hot!

Clemson opened up the season at home against a solid Georgia Tech team. On the very first shift of the game, Zander Buttress set the tone for the Tigers by putting one in the net only 40 seconds into the game. Less than 3 minutes later, Brett Glover put Clemson on the board again with an unbelievable backhander. Everything was smooth sailing from then on with more goals from: Buttress, Wakeford, Swindeman, Racicot, and Nurnberg. Joseph Kaeser played a great game in net for the Tigers, allowing only 2 goals on 35 shots. FINAL: Clemson 7 - 2 GT

The next night, the Tigers traveled to "The ICE" in Cumming, GA to take on Georgia Tech in their house. After a grueling first period, the score was tied 0 - 0, thanks to the fantastic play of Clemson's goaltender,Trevor Tironi. Clemson was able to get on the board early in the second period on a rebound goal scored by Bryan Golnek. The Tigers continued to pick up their play as the game rolled on and eventually popped three more goals in the net: 1 from McCall and 2 from Nurnberg. The real story of the night was the unbelievable game from Tironi, who ended up facing 32 shots and recording the shutout on the night. FINAL: Clemson 4 - 0 GT

The very next Thursday, it was time for the puck to drop at home against Clemson's in-state rival, the University of South Carolina. The first 2 periods were back and forth, Carolina would score and then the Tigers would answer back with goals coming from: Golnek and Young. Going into the third period, USC was up 3-2. Clemson got on the board quick in the third with a goal from Racicot. The Tigers then took the lead with 6 minutes left in the third on a shot from the point from Connor Megan. The Tigers couldn't hold USC off and ended up going into OT with the Gamecocks. After 2 minutes of overtime play, the Gamecocks scored to steal this one from the Tigers. FINAL: Clemson 4 - 5 USC (OT)

The next night, Clemson traveled down to the Plex in Irmo, SC to take on USC in front of an extremely large and rowdy group of Gamecock die-hards. The Tigers came out flying in the first period, jumping out to a 3-0 lead with goals coming from: Tallo, McCall, and Saliny. After battling the referees and an extremely determined USC team, the Gamecocks were able to fight back to make it 4-3 after 2 periods of play. In the third period, Clemson got a late goal from Ryan Wakeford on a beautiful shot from the point making it 5-3 in Clemson's favor. USC was only able to put one more in the net before the clock hit zero, finishing off what was a great win for the Tigers. Trevor Tironi was fantastic in net with 26 saves on 30 shots. FINAL: Clemson 5 - 4 USC

The Tiger's next game is this Friday at home against The Citadel! The puck drops at 9:45 pm. See you there!
