Warriors Sweep Weekend with 12 Round Shootout

Bremerton, WA - The West Sound Warriors opened up the season with a rematch of last years Cascade Cup finals. On Friday the Warriors headed to Bellingham to face the Blazer in their home opener.

Things got off to a slow start that night and the inexperience of West Sound's young roster showed in the first period as the Blazers jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the first intermission. "It wasn't the start we wanted but we felt that weren't out of the game. The boys were calm in the locker room and they never felt defeated," Assistant coach Justin Adams stated. Coach Adams took the reigns for the opeining game for Coach Miller who was unavailable for the night.

The second period started off with a bang when rookie Vance Siebert (Morgan) scored a shorthanded goal only 38 seconds after intermission. At the halfway mark, Jimmy Morgan made his presence known with a power play goal (assists from Carson Duggar and Vance Siebert). Less than two minutes later the score was tied up when Warriors captain Dom Kolbiens scored with help from Maxxon Turner and Scotty Perkins. The period would end knotted at 3.

The third period was a deadlock until vetran forward Gavin Nickerson knocked a puck out of mid air and into the back of the net on the power play to give the Warriors the final lead of 4-3.

On Saturday, the venue switched to Bremerton where the Warriors were looking to build on their momentum from the previous night. West Sound controlled the play early during the first period but could not get past Bellingham netminder Cody Foster despite outshooting the Blazers 14-4 in the period. Much like the first game, the Warriors came out fast after the intermission and forward Jimmy Morgan (Siebert, Torres) scored thirty seconds into the period.

Bellingham answered halfway through the period though three minutes later Morgan would get his second score with assists from Siebert and VanSchaack. The game would remain that way until 33 seconds left in the game, the Warriors would be shorthanded and the Blazers pulled the goalie for a rare 6-4 power play. West Sound could not stop their opponents from scoring and sending the game into over time.

Both teams would fail to overcome chances in the 5 minute extra period and the game went to shoot out. It wouldn't be until the 12th shooter Cory McClintick scoring that put the Warriors up permanently. It took only one last stop from rookie goalie Joe Morgan for the game to be finalized.

After the sweep the Warriors look to Cheney for their next opponent. Games will be in Bremerton Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

GO WARRIORS!!!
