The Goulbourn Hornets Major Atom Boys team won the Division 3B gold medal at the Blessed Sacrament Basketball Invitational during the weekend of March 2nd weekend.

The team started off the tournament against the North Region Crazy Cats in a highly contested game resulting in a 47-46 loss. The Hornets were trailing most of the game but persevered and had their chances to win the game in the last few seconds but the ball just didn't roll their way. The Hornets played against the Blessed Sacrament #2 team in the afternoon and lost 54-39. After the two losses, the team decided they were not going to lose again this weekend! They beat Sarnia Valhalla Vikings 54-48 with a great team effort led by David Nowlan with 12 points and Aidan MacMillan with 10 points.

On Sunday, they faced off against the Mississauga Monarchs #2 in Division 3B semi-final play. The Hornets executed their offence extremely well with a 47% field goal shooting percentage leading to a victory over the Mississauga team 61-52. David Nowlan and Noah Glogauer led the team with 12 points each. Next was the final game for the gold medal against the Tecumseh Saints. Right from the jump ball it was obvious that the Hornets came to win. The Hornets dominated from the beginning with great execution including great back door passing, drives to the basket, 16 steals and 42 rebounds. David Nowlan and Aidan MacMillan led the team with 15 and 13 points respectively. Ben Shoveller grabbed 18 rebounds. The Hornets became the gold medal winners!

The coaches and parents are very proud of the great team effort and winning their first medal! The boys are all set to challenge for the EOBA championship.
