Major Midget Hornets Win Silver at EOBA Championships!
The Goulbourn Major Midget Hornets basketball team earned Silver at the EOBA Championships, held the weekend of May2-4 in Gloucester.
The Hornets played their first game Friday against the Gloucester Wolverines #2 team. These two teams have played each other a few times during the season, so they know each other’s strengths and weaknesses, which made for an interesting game. The Hornets beat the Wolverines #2 team, 59-50.
The teams’ second game was bright and early Saturday morning against Hull Dragons #2. The Hornets played well in spite of the early hour and emerged the winner with a score of Hornets 56, Dragons 43.
The third game of the weekend was against the Ottawa Celtics. The game was quite competitive with both teams capitalizing on scoring opportunities. The final score was Hornets 52, Celtics 50.
Game 4 of the Championships was Sat. evening against the Ottawa Shooting Stars. This was not our best outing. Perhaps it was the result of the early morning start, but fatigue seemed to have set in, with the Hornets missing key shots and having some trouble defensively. They did rally in the final quarter to win by a margin of 54 – 49. This win did cinch first place for the Hornets in their pool.
The EOBA Championship game was against the Gloucester Wolverines #1 team, Sunday morning. These two teams have been fierce competitors all season. The Hornets hustled to a 37-33 lead in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter the Wolverines capitalized on numerous turnovers and the Hornets couldn’t keep the Wolverines from fighting back and winning the Gold medal. The final score for the EOBA Championship games was Gloucester Wolverines #1, 53, Goulbourn Hornets 43.
Congratulations Hornets on winning the Silver Medal!
