Juvenile Girls Make it a Goulbourn vs Goulbourn WEBL Final!

It was an all Goulbourn final game in the West End Basketball League Tournament in the Girls Juvenile Division. There were nine teams in the recreational league from Goulbourn, Nepean, Kanata, Ottawa and Almonte. The two Goulbourn teams were equally balanced and split between grade 11 and grade 12 students and they even shared a practice time. Despite being a recreational team, many of the girls played together on senior high school basketball teams from Sacred Heart and South Carleton High Schools. The “junior” team was coached by Rob Gibson and finished the regular season with only one loss and that was to the other Goulbourn team. Gibson’s team won all of their round robin games in the tournament leading up to the championship final. In a very close and exciting final game, the “junior” team beat the “senior” team with a score of 48 – 45. Coach Gibson said, “It was great to be involved in such a high caliber game for a house league championship. The game had the feel of a very competitive high school game and the girls all played well.”
