PART 2 Pearson wants to finish Jr. career in Owen Sound
Date: May 15, 2020
The Chatham Maroons have announced the sale of their team to William Szekesy, owner/principle of the QM Group of Companies based in Lakeshore, Ontario, effective today.
Larry Keenan, president of the Maroons and previous co-owner along with Marc Swayze, felt that the time was right to sell. “We have enjoyed our tenure as owners of the Maroons; it has truly been a labor of love running the team as a family for the past decade. The time has come for me to start enjoying interests other than hockey, namely my family and grandchildren. As for Marc, this will allow him to focus solely on the hockey club and his coaching and GM duties,” Keenan stated.
Keenan went on further, “When looking for a potential suitor for the team, we wanted to find an ownership group that was financially stable and committed to hockey in Chatham. With the acquisition by QM Group, we have found what we had been looking for. They realize that the Chatham Maroons are the flagship franchise in the GOJHL’s Western Conference; they have acquired a team with a rich, winning tradition, as well as a loyal and vocal fan base.”
There are no immediate plans to change the day-to-day operations of the team, other than the addition of Bill Bowler as Director of Hockey Development. Bowler comes from a hockey family, with experience in both junior and professional levels of hockey.
The Maroons sport a 4 and 1 record in the GOJHL’s Western Conference. Chatham’s next home game is Sunday, October 3rd, 2010 at 7:00 PM, when they will play host to the Sarnia Legionnaires.
