Former Long Island Gull, and current Mercyhurt Lakers alternate captain, Matt Zay checks in with ligulls.org from the Chicago Blackhawks Prospect Camp
Monday:
The day started with an uptempo workout that really got the blood flowing, as well as the sweat. After a morning workout we had another practice with the Blackhawks staff. Again the practice was very demanding and was a battle as the ice deteriorated quiet quickly. But after that, our day was basically done by 1 p.m. We shuttled back to the hotel and took a much needed nap.
After resting, Cole Gunner (Air Force), Mike Borkowski (Colgate), Brian Ward (St. Lawrence) and I went out for a nice Italian dinner. You could say we were a little "under dressed" for the occasion. Then it was a nice walk back to the hotel that was capped off by watching Yoenis Cespedes win the home run derby.
Tuesday:
Finally the scrimmages start. Following a short lift in the morning, we took the ice for our first scrimmage. Team White, my team, vs. Team Red. The game was split up to two 25-minute halves. The first period was a bit sloppy as most guys haven't played a competitive game since their college season ended. We were down 1-0 going into the second. The second opened things up a bit but we ended up falling 2-1. I thought I played well in the second half, had a couple scoring chances and a few nice hits. The night is a team dinner and then most likely the MLB All Star game on the TV.
