The Halton Hills Bulldogs are the best.
After a 4-3 double overtime win on Sunday evening over the Mimico Mountaineers the Halton Hills Bulldogs claimed their first Founders Cup Canadian Jr B Championship in their 16th season of operating in Halton Hills.
Dylan Gilbert was forced behind the net and then rolled the cage to bounce a shot by the Mimico netminder to send the hundreds of Bulldog fans in attendance into an unbridled passionate celebration.
The Dogs just kept ahead of the Mountaineers all evening until Mimico tied it up the game 3-3 late in the third period. The Dogs held a decisive advantage in shots on goal and carried the bulk of the play through 60 minutes but it was all even on the scoreboard going to OT thanks to great goaltending at both ends of the floor.
The first OT solved nothing as both teams goaltenders again slammed the door through the full 10 minute period.
In sudden death, again the Dogs came out with a pile of chances, however had nothing to show for it, yet...
With just over 7 minutes played in the 20 minute sudden death period, Dylan Gilbert was forced down behind the net. He rolled the cage and found himself in front and scored a goal that will be remembered forever by Bulldogs Nation.
Ryan Kelly was again phenomenal between the pipes and delivered big game goaltending just as he had in Game 5 of the Ontario Finals.
Following the game it was announced that Ethan O'Connor was the Bulldogs rep on the tournament all-star team.
Thanks to the fans of Halton Hills, you are all the best fans in Jr B lacrosse. You proved it in Ontario and you can now say you're the best Jr B fans in the country! Thanks for your support!
