For the second straight year, a Western States Hockey League star has been taken in the United States Hockey League’s Futures Draft, as Ontario Avalanche forward Lubomir Fetkovic was selected by the Sioux Falls Stampede in the 22nd round of phase two on Tuesday.

One of the top rookies in the league during the 2013-2014 season, the Bratislava, Slovakia, native appeared in all 46 of his team’s regular season games, notching 59 points (22 goals and 37 assists.) He was also strong in the playoffs, tallying two goals and two assists in five games played.

Not even 18 yet, the 6’1” 190 pound forward will have a good shot to jump to the Tier I level in the fall, after he made great strides under Avalanche head coach Chris Shaw this past season, who helped him adapt to the north American game.
